Mobile consular services activated by the government in various countries have made it easier for Kenyans in the diaspora to access essential government services.

Immigration PS Julius Bitok on Thursday said with the Mobile Consular Services (MCS) they have access to all the services without having to travel back to the country or to the foreign missions and consulates.

He spoke when he appeared before the National Assembly Committee on Diaspora Affairs and migrant workers.

The PS was tasked to outline the measures that the government through the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services has put in place to ease the facilitation of Kenyan migrant workers looking for passports.

“To ensure Kenyans in diaspora are facilitated with passports and vital civil registration documents efficiently and timely, we have launched Mobile Consular Services,” he told the committee.

“Mobile MCS has made it easier for diaspora communities to access essential government services without traveling back to Kenya or to the foreign missions and consulates,” he added.

In May, Foreign and Diaspora Affairs CS Alfred Mutua launched the Mobile Consular Services in Canada.

The initiative aims to bring Consular Services closer to Kenyans in Canada.

Among the services provided at the MCS are the processing of E-passports, National Identity Cards and birth certificates.

The Consular will also offer counselling and advisory services on pressing matters, among other engagements with the Diaspora.
