Azimio La Umoja Coalition has said the alleged Mungiki gang are youth who are experiencing the failed promises of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Through a statement, the opposition stated that Kenya Kwanza is making allegations without tabling evidence of Mungiki re-emergence.

"As a party, we wish to challenge Kenya Kwanza not to run away from responsibilities. The young people this administration sees as Mungiki and other types of criminals are the same ones it mobilised as foot soldiers, for the now failed promise of economic revival," the statement reads.

Raila added that the accused youths feel frustrated,  betrayed, used and dumped, as they don't have jobs, and training that they were promised during the campaigns.

"These youths deserve a deal, not guns and bullets," he said.

He also wants the President William Ruto-led government to agree that it has failed to restore programmes like Kazi Mtaani that the previous administration put in place to cater to the unemployed youths.

"Azimio La Umoja will not sit back and watch the regime resort to the extra-judicial execution and enforced disappearance witnessed in the past, in the name of fighting non-existence crimes," the statement reads.
