A clergyman was arraigned in Wanguru law courts on Monday where he answered charges of allegedly obtaining money by false pretences.

Police officers in Kirinyaga County had arrested the man who was suspected to have swindled Sh2 million from a church.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the money is said to have been meant for the procurement of ACK Mwea town church seats.

On February 9, the man of God together with his spouse had been contracted by the church to deliver seats at ACK Mwea Town Church.

They were to do the delivery on or before April 10.

On the due date, the man of God did not deliver the seats nor show up at the church.

"The church faithful reported at Wang’uru Police station. The man of the cloth swindled them their money before disappearing. Efforts to reach him turned futile, prompting the church vicar to file the report," DCI said in a tweet.

DCI said Police from Wanguru police station immediately swung into action and successfully apprehended the suspect.
