President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua have gifted the AIPCA Church in Thika Sh1.5 million.

Gachagua donated Sh500,000 and alongside the President's Sh1 million to church officials during a Sunday service.

He gave the donation during the retirement service of the Head of the AIPCA Church Archbishop Julius Njoroge Gitau in Thika.

Gachagua said Gitau had been serving in the church for 50 years and is now paving the way for others to take over.

"Archbishop Gitau now has time to mentor other young leaders, a gesture for all to emulate," he said.

The DP also urged other leaders to emulate the Archbishop and let other people lead in institutions.

"Archbishop has done a good thing by retiring, we all should do the same and let other people lead. You can only lead for a time, according to the Constitution and to your own conscience," he said.

Gachagua took the opportunity to ask retired President Uhuru Kenyatta urging him to take a break from politics and go rest.

"Most of us, especially from this region, get embarrassed by our leader, who we respect and supported. We urge him to consider taking a break, just as Archbishop has done and other leaders, he should go and rest and allow other people an opportunity," he said.

"We want to dignify that office, because it's a higher office," Gachagua added.
