Man, 20, arrested over sale of illegal fireams in West Pokot

National Police Service officers in West Pokot have arrested a 20-year-old man over handling of illegal ammunition.

NPS officers recovered the ammunition at around 4 pm on May 24, 2023, at the Amakuriat Trading Centre.

According to the investigation, the weapons were destined for the West Pokot-Turkana border.

"We take this opportunity to thank the public for sharing this vital information with the officers, which led to the successful recovery," NPS tweeted.

At least 200 rounds of  7.62×39mm special were seized from the suspect after officers from Alale police station posed as buyers to nab the suspect.

Last week, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki was in Samburu during a joint security meeting with the area leaders where residents surrendered 96 guns and hundreds of ammunition. 

"Intelligence-led security operations will continue until all criminals are flushed out of their hideouts," Kindiki said.
