Kajiado East MP Kakuta Maimai has claimed that Senator Kanar Seki is undermining his development agenda as an MP.
Maimai claimed Seki never stood with the people of Kajiado East when the Senate debated the Equalisation Fund Bill, claiming other constituencies in Kajiado received Sh500 million, while his constituency got nothing
"He is our senator and he was supposed to stand with us in the senate on this matter. He ignored us," Maimai claimed.
However, Seki disputed the claims.
“You are the MP and that matter of the Equalisation Bill came to Parliament. What did you do?” he questioned.
Seki claimed the Bill was handled by the 12th Parliament but in the 12th Parliament, the senate only debated it and handed over to the National Assembly and approved it without any amendments.
“When that debate was in the Senate, I was out of the country and I had a representative who represented me well,” Seki said.
Maimai said Kajiado East is not inhabited by children of a lesser God.
"I always speak based on facts. My work is a representation of my people," Maimai said.
Marginalised areas in Kajiado were allocated Sh952 million from the Equalisation Fund to uplift basic services such as road infrastructure, water, health, education and electricity.
The Commission on Revenue Allocation in its second policy identified 64 sub-locations in Kajiado Central, West and South as marginalised with residents in those areas lacking access to basic services.
Earlier, CRA vice chairman Koitamet ole Kina said the fund will ensure all Kenyans residing in those areas can enjoy basic services at their localities.
A total of 1,424 marginalised regions spread across 34 counties were earmarked to benefit from the Sh13.89 billion in the current financial year ending June 30.
This is after Senate passed the Equalisation Fund (Appropriations) Bill, 2023 that authorises the counties to spend the cash.
The Bill detailed how the 34 counties will share the funds to develop areas identified as marginalised.
