The Kenya Revenue Authority collected more excise from financial transactions in 2022 as compared to 2021, the latest report shows.
The report dubbed Economic Survey 2023 indicates KRA collected up to Sh40.9 billion from the transactions only last year.
This posed a significant increase from that collected in 2021, which was Sh28.9 billion.
Similarly, revenues from Airtime took second position in 2022, constituting Sh39.2 billion as compared to Sh33 billion in 2021.
In the wine and spirits category, KRA collected an increased Sh18.9 billion from Sh16.9 billion attained in 2021.
Revenues collected from beer reduced to Sh27.3 billion as compared to that collected in 2021 which was slightly higher at Sh28.6 billion.
"The total excise revenue collected from domestically manufactured commodities and services increased by 17.1 per cent from Sh131.1 billion in 2021 to Sh153.5 billion in 2022," the report stated.
According to the survey, revenue collected from cigarettes slightly reduced to Sh11.7 billion.
"All subcategories, except beer and cigarettes, registered an increase in revenue in 2022," the report shows.
The total amount collected on excise revenue levied on commodities and Services in 2022 stands at Sh153.5 billion.
