Education CS Ezekiel Machogu enjoyed a heartwarming dance during the national drama festivals.

Machogu, Basic Education PS Belio Kipsang, and KICD CEO Charles Ongondo joined Santa Maria Secondary School in song and dance.

The students were performing a creative cultural dance called Cheruto. Machogu was given a traditional horn which he blew as the other officials danced.

The dance talks about banditry and how communities in the area can come together to deal with the issue.

“When bandits are in the reforming process, and they are taught digital lessons, they fail to understand. But when given wood they enjoy it more,” Kennedy Mwangi the trainer told the Star.

The dancers were dressed in traditional Kalenjin attire which includes head beads, waist beads, and brown dresses. Further, they had a white beaded waist piece called Legetio.

“When a woman holds it, if there’s war, peace reigns,” he said.

This is part of the ongoing national drama festivals at the Gala level held at Shimo la Tewa school in Mombasa.

Machogu who was attending his first drama festivals since he became a CS, shared his experience saying that indeed Kenyan students are talented.

“Nimeona maajabu. I did not expect all this but I can say our students have a lot of potential and talent,” Machogu said.

Since his appointment, Machogu has made his maiden appearance at the festival taking place at the Shimo la Tewa secondary school.

“Indeed this is an educational enterprise that enhances learning across the board,” he said.

The 10-day program brought together over 15,000 participants from ECD, primary schools, secondary schools, and colleges.

The festivals began on April 20 and will end on April 29.

Sports, culture, and Talent CS Ababu Namwamba was also in attendance. The festival is the first to resume since covid 19 break in 2020.
