Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has claimed that during the recent Azimio demos, there was a deliberate attempt to hurt people.

Speaking on Wednesday, Kalonzo said Azimio leader Raila Odinga's car was shot at with over 10 bullets but they didn't know it was armoured.

"The amount of teargas I got was worse than what we got as Cord. This time there was a deliberate attempt to hurt. Why do you want to kill and then talk? Why do you want to mess up this country?" He said.

This comes after Azimio has been holding a series of rallies and anti-government demonstrations over the high cost of living among other issues.

During the demos, protesters and police ran into battles with each.

Some protesters were throwing stones at police and they countered with teargas and water canons.

The battle saw Kenyans and journalists caught up in the melee sustaining serious injuries.

Raila claimed that there was an attempt on his life and that of Kalonzo.

He said that during one of the demonstrations, their cars were shot at, but they escaped unharmed.

"There was an attempt on the lives of both Raila and Kalonzo. Our cars were shot at but luckily, they were unharmed. We remain horrified and disgusted by the response of the police," he said.

Azimio spokesperson Makau Mutua shared images of a badly damaged windscreen, claiming it had been hit by a bullet.

"A bullet has hit our vehicle in which Baba Raila Odinga is riding," Mutua, who was in the same car said.

On Tuesday, the Opposition chief wrote to Embakasi OCS saying his team had identified police officers who allegedly fired bullets at his car.

With the help of the public, the lawyers said they have identified two officers, with others still at large.

In the letter, Raila's lawyers Awele Jackson Advocates said they believe the cops were acting on the command of the Inspector General of the National Police Service and/or the State.

"With malice aforethought, they attempted to commit a felony, to wit; to cause the death of our client, an offence under the Penal code," the letter reads.
