Journalists covering the Azimio protests were on Thursday seen wearing protective gear.

Media practitioners in Mathare, Kibra and Kisumu put on light-body armored vests and protective headgear as part of protective measures.

Others were spotted in respiratory masks and protective eyeglasses to protect themselves from stones thrown by protesters and teargas lobed by police officers.

Citizen Tv reporters including Seth Olale used the police as human shields to avoid any engagement with the protesters who hurled stones in Mathare.

The media also limited live interviews with the protesters during the coverage to limit any attack on them or their equipment.

This comes after many scribes were caught in the middle of the clash between the police and protesters on Monday.

The Media Council of Kenya has since condemned continued attacks on journalists.

"Police officers attacking journalists undermines press freedom, limits the public's access to information, violates human rights and can cause physical or psychological harm," MCK CEO David Omwoyo said.

Several journalists were assaulted, vehicles vandalised and their phones and equipment stolen by goons in the city.
