MP Karen Nyamu accuses Kasarani police of cover-up in Jeff Mwathi murder

Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu now accuses Kasarani Police Station officers of colluding with suspects in the murder of upcoming designer Geoffrey Mwathi, alias Jeff.

Nyamu while speaking at Kianyaga boys high school where she accompanied Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to a ceremony that saw him feted as an alumnus, Nyamu said the officers who will be found liable need to be probed.

"I have seen people telling me on my Facebook, hiyo station ifungwe mfungue hapo soko," Nyamu said.

The senator said she has been involved in the probe since the immediate death of the upcoming interior designer Mwathi.

"I can confirm the Police in Kasarani were involved in the cover-up of this murder. I am requesting you to help us at Kasarani," she said.

When contacted by the Star to give her comment on the accusation, Kasarani OCPD Purity Wahome declined to speak on phone.

Mugiithi musician Samidoh is Jeff Mwathi's uncle.

Nyamu attended Mwathi's burial, in the company of Samidoh during which the musician introduced her to the crowd.

According to police records, Mwathi fatally fell from the 12th floor of a residential building called Redwood Apartments, around Safari Park Estate, in Nairobi on February 22

Officials from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation’s homicide unit are reconstructing the scene as part of the investigations. 

Also lined up for more questioning was Mugithi singer DJ Fatxo, who is a person of interest in the case.

DJ Fatxo has since denied involvement and asked Kenyans for patience as they await the outcome of the ongoing probe.

The 23-year-old interior designer, popularly known as Jeff, reportedly fell to his death while visiting DJ Fatxo.

At least five other people who were in the house when the incident happened on February 22 are set for further questioning.

The singer denied any wrongdoing in the incident. 

DCI said the first phase of the probe included the interviewing of the first cluster of witnesses in the case, forensic examination of the scene, and retrieval of CCTV footage that captured the deceased's last moments.
