A Multi-Agency security team on Thursday recovered 87 cows and 26 goats that were stolen by bandits in Baringo North.
The operation by the security team also known as 'Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift' handed over the livestock to the rightful owners after positive identification.
“The animals were stolen from Chemoe and Kagir Villages in Baringo North, and recovered from the bandits after a fierce fire exchange,” said the National Police Service.
On Tuesday night, bandits killed a man in Kagir village in Saimo Soi ward, Baringo North and reportedly made away with over 200 goats belonging to two families.
Barketiew chief Wilson Chelagat said on Wednesday that the deceased, Kakuko Chebor, was sprayed with bullets by the bandits who also stole an unestablished number of livestock.
"The attack took place near Kagir Primary School which is along the borderline,” he said adding that two residents, Margaret Kebut and Joseph Chesundu, were left counting losses after their livestock was stolen during the attack.
Chelagat claimed the bandits drove the stolen livestock towards Kositei and Seretion villages in the Tiaty sub-county.
By the time of going to press, police were yet to arrive at the scene and the body was not collected.
"We need heavy security to reach the area to pick up the body and we don't know if the bandits have laid an ambush, but police are working on the logistics," Chelagat said.
He urged the government to disarm the bandits to restore security in the region.
