Suspect shot dead in confrontation with police in Kahawa West

A suspected thug was Sunday morning shot and killed in a confrontation with police in Kahawa West area, Nairobi.

He was identified as Eric Muchui M'Bengi.

Police said they recovered a Smith and Wesson revolver loaded with one round and a handcuff key from him after the Sunday morning drama.

The officers who attended the shooting scene also raided his house and recovered a stapler resembling pistol, AK47 bayonet, a metal cutter and two chains.

The shooting took place after his accomplice had been arrested in Kasarani area.

Peter Aburi Mugira was arrested over a series of robberies in the area and later grilled before he led police to the hideout of the accomplice.

He is expected in court where police will seek more time to hold him as they investigate his alleged crimes.

The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary.

Cases of armed robberies are on the rise in estates amid efforts to contain the trend.

Meanwhile, police are investigating the murder of a 35-year-old man whose body was found on the roadside in Kitengela, Kajiado County.

Police identified the deceased as Benson Gitonga. The body lay in a pool of blood and had a stab wound on the armpit.

It is suspected that he was killed while on a drinking spree before he was dumped at the scene.

Police say no arrest has been made in connection with the Sunday morning incident and efforts to get the killers are ongoing.

Police said they are investigating the murder.
