The Cabinet has given Plan International green light to move its headquarters from London, UK to Nairobi.
Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.
The Cabinet during a meeting on Tuesday approved the plan for the NGO to set up its headquarters in the country in what has been termed as being in recognition of the improved business environment.
The not-for-profit humanitarian is seeking to operationalise its global headquarters in Kenya.
“This move is a significant boost to Kenya’s status as a leading investment and economic hub, and comes hot on the heels of J.P. Morgan, a leading global financial conglomerate, choosing to establish their regional headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya,” the dispatch reads.
The organisation was founded in 1937.
It engages people and partners to empower children, young people and communities to make vital changes that tackle the root causes of discrimination against girls, exclusion and vulnerability.
It also works with children and communities to prepare for and respond to crises and to overcome adversity as well as support the safe and successful progression of children from birth to adulthood.
Plan International has an active presence in 75 countries across the world.
The aim is to improve the daily lives of girls but also to advance their position and value in society, whilst actively working with boys and young men to champion gender equality.
