Instagram co-founders, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, are set to launch a new social media application, Artifact, that will focus on creators' articles.

According to The Verge, the name Artifact is derived from articles, facts, and artificial intelligence that will enable users to discuss a topic, trending news and current affairs.

"The simplest way to understand Artifact is as a kind of TikTok for text, though you might also call it Google Reader reborn as a mobile app or maybe even a surprise attack on Twitter," The Verge said.

"The app opens to a feed of popular articles chosen from a curated list of publishers ranging from leading news organizations like The New York Times to small-scale blogs about niche topics," the Verge said.

Systrom and Krieger sold Instagram to Meta owner  Mark Zuckerberg in April 2012 for $1 billion just two years after launch.
