Eight former county bosses shortlisted for CAS positions

If successful, President Ruto will appoint them to the positions.

Public Service Commission on Monday evening, released list of 224 shortlisted candidates who will be contesting for the Chief Administrative Secretary positions. 

Notably, up-to eight former county governors have made the cut and will be interviewed by PSC from March 1. 

If successful, President William Ruto will appoint them to the positions. 

Evans Kidero was elected into office in 2013 and served as Nairobi's first governor before losing the position to Mike Sonko in 2017. 

In the August 9, 2022 polls, Kidero also tried his luck in Homa Bay and lost it to Gladys Wanga. He challenged the results in Court. 

Kidero is also facing  graft allegations. On February 7, court dismissed an application in which he sought to stop a civil suit filed by the EACC to recover Sh58 million. 

John Mruttu, the former governor of Taita Taveta also wants to try his luck as a CAS. 

Mruttu was elected in office in 2013 and and lost re-election in 2017 to Granton Samboja. 

Before getting into politics, Mruttu was the CEO of Kenya Petroleum Refineries Limited. 

In November, through a gazette notice, Agriculture CS CS Mithika Linturi appointed Mruttu to chair the board of Agricultural Finance Corporation.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 4 (2) and 4 (3) of the Agricultural Finance Corporation Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development appoints John Mruttu to be a member and Chairperson of the Board of the Agricultural Finance Corporation," the statement read.

Other governors are Samuel Tuani who served in Narok, James Ongwae of Kisii, Samuel Ragwa of Tharaka Nithi and Patrick Khaemba of Trans Nzoia county. 

Hussein Dado of Tana River and Moses Lenolkulal of Samburu also are in the list.
