Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) has a new post-master general.
John Tonui, a long-serving human resource manager floored 18 other candidates to be appointed to the position.
The search for a new office holder who doubles up as the agency's chief executive officer started in early December.
In the appointment made by ICT cabinet secretary Eliud Owalo, Tonui now replaces Dan Kagwe whose term comes to an end next month.
Kagwe was first appointed to the position in March 2017 and later re-appointed for a final three-year term in March 2020.
“I am pleased to inform you that the government has appointed you as chief executive officer and postmaster-general in the service of the Postal Corporation of Kenya for a period of three years with effect from February 13, 2023,” his appointment letter reads in part.
Tonui has an experience of up to 30 years in public service having joined the corporation as an assistant postal controller before rising through the ranks to his position.
He will be reporting to the board of directors.
"As the Postal Corporation of Kenya Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for the implementation of the board's decisions in a results-oriented and timely manner in line with the board’s goals, objectives and agreed performance targets," the letter further reads.
Priding itself as the most accessible, affordable and effective logistics corporation, the agency boasts of a total of 623 outlets spread across the country.
As the new boss, Tonui will be expected to revitalize the agency which is currently facing turbulent times due to digital transformation.
CS Owalo has already announced plans to revive the Corporation, noting it has the obligation to provide Universal Postal Services (UPS) to the country.
"We must jolt PCK from sleep before it sleeps forever. It must take up its rightful place as a strategic State agency in the emerged and future competitive technological and business marketplace," he said.
