A family in Mwingi West wants justice after one of their family members was shot dead by a police officer.

Alex Musili, 26,  was asleep when two police officers started yelling his name and ordered him out.

Yoana Sammy, his brother said one officer was armed and handcuffed him before breaking into his brother's house.

"They used wood to break into his room. When he came out, he tried hitting his head with the wood but missed him," Yoana said.

"After missing him, one of the officers who was armed stepped a few steps backward and shot him."

Sammy said he heard a gunshot and saw his brother lying down.

After the incident, Sammy said he was taken to Mumbuni police station where he was only asked his brother's name before being released.

Juliana Sammy, the mother said her son passed on while they were preparing to take him to the hospital.

A village elder said Musili had been accused of Sh10,000 on January 2.

They have called on the government to intervene.

"My son was so young and at his prime age, even if he had wronged, killing him was not an option," Musili's father said.
