ODM leader Raila Odinga has warned Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale against using the mosque as a political platform.

Speaking on Friday in Mombasa, Raila also warned the National Chairman of the Kenya Muslims National Advisory Council(KEMNAC) Juma Ngao of the same.

"Wasiende ndani ya msikiti na kuleta siasa ndani ya msikiti. Tunaonya Bwana Duale wakiwa na Juma Ngao (They should not take politics to the mosque. We are warning Duale and Ngao)," Raila said.

Acknowledging Ngao's activism against the mistreatment visited on Muslims, Raila said Azimio was committed to supporting him.

The opposition chief reiterated that places of worship should not be used as political platforms, pointing out that there are open places to be used for that.

Raila, once again, asked President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua to cease their political talk in churches.

"Even you Ruto and Gachagua, stop using the church as a political platform. Let us meet outside and talk politics. But the church and the mosque should remain places of worship," he said.

On December 25, 2022, Raila accused Ruto of misusing churches, saying government programmes should be launched in government offices, not in churches.

"The top leadership in the country every Sunday they are in this church or the other shouting at us, the government has done this, the government is doing this," Raila said while speaking during a Sunday service at St Peters ACK Church in Bondo.

At the same time, the ODM leader accused the Anglican Church of Kenya leadership of being keen to impress the government at the expense of fighting injustices in society.

He claim that they wanted the Azimio team to drop their Supreme Court petition against President William Ruto's victory.

"We were saddened to see the leadership of the Anglican Church getting involved in the political agitation, asking politicians, particularly those from Azimio who had petitioned the outcome of the election because of rigging to withdraw the case in the interest of unity," he said.
