Nyeri woman MP Rahab Mukami has raised concern over the stalled construction of Naromoru and Karemenu dams in Kieni.
"Can the Water Cabinet secretary explain why Naromoru and Karemenu dams have stalled?" she said.
Mukami called for a status update on the progress of the approved project from the Ministry.
She further demanded for the measures put in place to ensure that the mentioned dams are completed in a timely manner.
The legislator also called for measures to ensure water from the stated dams will be distributed to the constituents in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
She said the distribution will boost farming activities of the residents.
Mukami also pushed for a course of action to mitigate against drought in the county.
Her concerns come barely a month after the Trade CS Moses Kuria assured that he will complete the stalled dams.
"This project will serve the people of Nyeri, Laikipia and Nyandarua. My estimation is within the next 12 months, Kieni will be self-sufficient," Kuria said a month ago when he was disbursing relief food to Kieni residents.
He said the dams are a long-term solution to the drought and they will facilitate irrigation farming.
