The National Health Insurance Fund is seeking protection from the National Assembly as it conducts some reforms.
The board chairman Lewis Nguyai has hinted that the authority will soon be compelled to conduct a crackdown on what he has termed as historical political baggage.
"NHIF historically has been full of political baggage and this has created a culture of people getting entitled to their positions and bringing in people without technical skills," Nguyai told the parliamentary committee.
The committee visited the authority's headquarters on a fact finding mission on Thursday.
The legislators also held discussions with key management of the fund on a range of issues affecting its operations.
"We will need the protection of Parliament so that when we make those decisions. We will run to you when we are bugged with political pressure," Nguyai said.
