A two-day public scrutiny of the East Africa Legislative Assembly nominee list starts today.

Clerk of the National Assembly Samuel Njoroge said members of the public have Thursday and Friday to raise issues, if any, regarding persons nominated to EALA by the various parties.

He said views will then be forwarded to a joint House committee that will vet the nominees.

The 14-member panel, comprising seven members from either House, is scheduled to hold its first meeting to set the grounds for the vigorous exercise on Tuesday.

It will be co-chaired by Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo and Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia.

The election of the nine representatives will be held on November 17, at Parliament Buildings.

Kenya has nine seats up for grabs at EALA. Five of them will go to the Kenya Kwanza coalition while four will go to Azimio la Umoja.

From the four ODM is expected to have two seats while other affiliate parties; Jubilee and Wiper will each get a seat.

Kenya Kwanza has narrowed down its list of 145 candidates seeking EALA seats to 15.

Former Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Hassan Omar, former Nominated Senator David Sankok (Narok) and former Balambala MP Abdikadir Aden (Garissa) are among the nominees.

ODM settled on six nominees including Raila Odinga’s daughter Winnie Odinga, businessman Suleiman Shahbal and the party’s treasurer Timothy Bosire. Also on the list is former Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has fronted his son Kennedy for the slot.

He served in EALA’s  4th assembly from 2017-2022.

Jubilee has secretary general Jeremiah Kioni and director of elections Kanini Kega.
