The United Democratic Alliance party (UDA) has come out to rubbish claims that the party is seeking to scrap the two presidential term limit.

Through the party's chairperson Johnson Muthama, UDA said they remain supportive of the current 10-year cap.

Muthama said he had received many calls amid an uproar on the matter.

"The statement by Fafi MP, Hon. Salah Yakub on scrapping of the presidential term limit and cap it on age limit has made many Kenyans to get concerned and many have called me asking the position of UDA Kenya," Muthama said.

He clarified that Fafi MP Salah Yakub was not speaking on behalf of the party.

"Please take note of this, as the National Party, Chairman I wish to categorically state that Hon. Yakub's made a personal statement which has nothing to do with UDA Kenya," Muthama added.

Yakub in his proposal claims the cap should be on age and not period service.

The Fafi MP said some UDA legislators are currently working on a Constitutional amendment bill to replace the two-term limit with an age limit of 75 years.

Yakub revealed the plan during a relief food distribution drive in Garissa over the weekend.

However, UDA through the party chair said the party was still in support of the term presidential limit.

"As a Party, we stand for open Democracy, and we remain supportive of the two-term presidential limit and no ongoing discussions to scrap it," Muthama said.
