An autopsy on the body of Gichugu Constituency returning officer Geoffrey Gitobu shows he died out of a heart attack. This was caused by a blood clot in the pulmonary vein.

Pathologists ruled out foul play in the sudden mysterious death of Gitobu, saying for now he died out of natural causes.

The officials talked to the media at Nanyuki Cottage Hospital mortuary Wednesday, saying Gitobu died from a clot in the pulmonary vein.

Lead pathologist Ayub Macharia said the 58-year-old was also anaemic. Samples were collected for further analysis to tell more about what triggered the same.

Laikipia County Criminal Investigation Officer Onesmus Towett said the investigations were not yet complete and that they had taken some body tissues for further analysis. Gitobu collapsed Monday in Nanyuki as he drove himself.

He was rushed to Nanyuki Cottage Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

This prompted speculation on social media following the death and abduction of other IEBC officials in recent weeks.
