President-elect William Ruto has assured Kenyans that he will work with all elected leaders to steer the country forward.

Ruto was declared the President-elect on Monday, August 15, by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman, Wafula Chebukati at the Bomas of Kenya.

Speaking at Bomas, Ruto said that his government will be for all people regardless of who they voted for.

''I want to promise all the people of Kenya, regardless of how they voted that this will be their government. I know many are wondering, especially those who have done many things against us, I want to tell them that they have nothing to fear," Ruto said.

"There is no room for vengeance, there is no room for looking back, we are looking into the future. I am aware that our country is at a stage where we need all hands on deck to move it forward."

Ruto further said that it's not about the leaders but about the people of Kenya, not about power, but about empowering Kenyans.

Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes representing 50.49 per cent of the final vote, while Raila received 6,942,930 votes this 48.85 per cent, as announced by Chebukati at the Bomas of Kenya.

He defeated 77-year-old Raila Odinga, once a fiery and iconic opposition leader who has lost, counting this election, five times.

However, he was quick to acknowledge that he will work with the Opposition for there are areas that they can work together.

"I want to promise that I will run a transparent, open and democratic government and I will work with the opposition to the extent that they provide oversight over my administration," he said.
