Wavinya Ndeti wins Machakos gubernatorial seat

Ndeti who unsuccessfully made attempts in 2013 and 2017 won the contest with a landslide.

Wiper Machakos governor candidate Wavinya Ndeti has won the seat after unsuccessfully contesting for the position two times.

Ndeti garnered 226, 609 votes in the hotly contested seat that attracted five candidates.

Machakos County IEBC returning officer Nelly Illongo declared the former Transport CAS the governor-elect at Machakos Academy, the county's tallying centre minutes past 2.00 am on Friday.

Ndeti who unsuccessfully made attempts in 2013 and 2017 won the contest with a landslide. Her closest contender Nzioka Waita (CCU) managed 129,181 votes.

Machakos County according to IEBC has 687,565 registered voters.

Illongo said 408,175 voters participated in the August 9, polls.

The voter turnout was 59.37 per cent.

Francis Maliti who ran on Maendeleo Chap Chap party before he stepped down for Ndeti got 9, 981 votes.

Rose Mulwa of the ELP party garnered 4, 424 votes while UDA's Johnson Muthama had 37, 980 votes.

Incumbent Machakos senator Agnes Kavindu retained her seat after garnering 155, 883 votes.

There was a voter turnout of 409, 729 for the seat translating to 60.28 per cent.

Albanus Ngengele (UDA) emerged second after he got 65, 606 votes. John Katuku (PTP) party had 33, 752 votes, Charles Kilonzo (independent) managed 43, 962, Joel Mbaluka (UDA) 39, 183, while MCCP's Benard Mung'ata had 62, 587 votes.

Incumbent Machakos woman representative Joyce Kamene retained her seat after she garnered 253, 106 votes.

Rita Ndunge (MCCP) became number two with 93, 778 votes.
