
Kenyans lost significantly more money to cybercrime in 2024, with mobile banking fraud recording the sharpest increase, according to Central Bank of Kenya data.
Losses from mobile banking fraud surged by 344 percent from Sh182.41 million in 2023 to Sh810.68 million in 2024.
Card fraud also rose to Sh263.29 million from Sh15.6 million, while computer fraud increased to Sh203.39 million from Sh74.84 million. Identity theft losses climbed to Sh199.08 million from Sh32.62 million.
Online banking fraud recorded a modest rise to Sh111.83 million from Sh106.21 million, while internet scam losses increased from Sh0.797 million to Sh6.07 million.
The figures highlight the growing financial impact of cybercrime on individuals and businesses.
