Europe remains the most frequent host of the FIFA World Cup, having staged the tournament 11 times since its inception in 1930.

Countries across the continent, including Italy, France, Germany, England, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Russia, have welcomed the world's biggest football event, underlining Europe's central role in the history of the competition.

North America ranks second with four hostings, a figure set to rise to seven when the United States, Mexico and Canada jointly host the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Mexico will make history as the first nation to host the tournament three times, having previously staged it in 1970 and 1986.

South America has hosted the World Cup five times, with Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina and Chile taking turns as hosts.

Asia and Africa have jointly hosted three editions, including South Africa's landmark 2010 tournament, the first on African soil.

The Middle East joined the hosting roster in 2022 when Qatar became the first Arab nation to stage the World Cup, marking another milestone in football's global expansion.
