Composition of public sector wage employment ['000]/WILLIAM WANYOIKE

As of 2024, the public sector workforce in Kenya is primarily composed of employees under the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Other significant segments include Ministries and other extra-budgetary institutions and County governments.

Parastatal Bodies also employ thousands of Kenyans, while Corporations controlled by the government account for only 5 per cent of the total workforce.

The growing public wage bill contributes to the country's fiscal imbalance.

This is compounded by a rapidly rising Total Public Debt.

Kenya's debt has expanded faster than its economy, signalling a persistent fiscal challenge.
