The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) marked its 20th anniversary with a major celebration at the Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mombasa, held from November 14 to 16, 2025.

During the event, party leaders highlighted the individuals recognised as ODM’s founders, reflecting on the movement’s political journey since its formation in 2005.

The list, read out by Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, included Raila Odinga, the former Prime Minister, whose leadership and influence shaped the party from its inception.

Other founders named were President William Ruto, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, who clarified that he considers himself a founder despite not being included in the official list.

Also recognised were former ministers Franklin Bett and Henry Kosgey, Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o, former EALA MP Mumbi Ngaru, and East African Community Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul.

The celebration paid tribute to these political figures for laying the groundwork for a party that has been instrumental in Kenya’s development of a multi-party democracy.

Leaders and supporters reflected on ODM’s decades-long legacy of protest, reform, and political resilience, emphasising its role in shaping national discourse. The anniversary also served as a moment to reaffirm unity and chart the party’s direction for the future.
