

Murang’a County has emerged among Kenya’s most competitive regions, ranking fourth nationally in the 2024 County Competitiveness Index (CCI) with an average score of 61 per cent.
According to the report released on November 4, 2025, agriculture, forestry, and fishing activities dominate the county’s economy, contributing 46.77 per cent of its performance score.
Transport and storage followed with 9.69 per cent, while construction accounted for 6.47 per cent.
Public administration and defence contributed 5.96 per cent, and real estate activities 5.21 per cent.
Education was listed at 4.87 per cent, wholesale and retail trade including repair of motor vehicles at 2.70 per cent, and manufacturing at 1.28 per cent.
The CCI measures how counties perform in economic potential, quality of life, infrastructure, and investment attractiveness.
Murang’a’s strong agricultural base continues to anchor its economy, positioning the county as a key player in Kenya’s growth and competitiveness landscape.
