The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has condemned Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga’s remarks following the death of Raila Odinga, terming them reckless and shameful.

The party said the comments mocked the late leader’s passing and aggravated national grief at a time when the country needs unity and healing.

ODM noted that such divisive utterances threaten national cohesion and urged leaders to rise above petty politics and show respect for Raila’s legacy.

The party emphasised that responsible leadership is vital during this mourning period.

Notably, Kahiga has since stepped down as the Council of Governors’ Vice Chairperson.

Kahiga has also issued a public apology.

In a statement, Kahiga apologised to the late Odinga’s family, the ODM fraternity, the Luo Nation, Kenyans, and political leaders.

He clarified that his comments were not celebratory and were recorded during a burial in his home village.
