Nigeria leads globally in improving access to water and sanitation since 2011, according to the 2025 ALTI Global Social Progress Index.
The country recorded an impressive 31.69-point increase, followed by Mali (29.24) and Guinea (26.31). Other notable performers include Tanzania, Lesotho, Somalia, India, Mozambique, Togo, and Laos.
The index measures progress on a scale of 0 to 100, where 100 represents the best possible performance.
These improvements highlight significant efforts by governments and partners to expand clean water access and enhance sanitation infrastructure, contributing to better health outcomes and overall quality of life across developing regions.
