Kenya's fertiliser imports for the first half of 2025 (January to June) totalled 443,701 metric tonnes, valued at nearly Sh25.83 billion.

This volume represents a slight decline compared to the same period in the previous year, 2024, when the country imported 445,857 tonnes.

While the volume saw a marginal drop, the overall trend from 2022 to 2025 shows considerable fluctuation. The year 2023 marked the highest import volume in the four-year period, peaking at 629,566 tonnes.

This substantial import volume in 2023 was a significant jump from the 188,357 tonnes imported in the first half of 2022.

Following the 2023 peak, both the volume and value of fertiliser imports have decreased in the subsequent years of 2024 and 2025.

The data, sourced from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, illustrates the dynamic nature of fertiliser supply and cost, which are crucial factors for the country's agricultural sector and food security initiatives.
