Kenya's digital landscape is defined by its massive mobile adoption and youthful demographics.
With a population of 57 million and a median age of 20 years in January 2025, the country has 68.8 million active mobile connections, representing a 121% penetration rate due to multiple SIM use.
Mobile access remains the key gateway to the digital world, with 95% of connections being broadband-enabled (3G/4G/5G).
However, a significant digital gap persists. While 27.4 million people (48% of the population) are online, 52% remain offline, primarily in rural areas where 69.7% of the total population resides.
The country has 15.1 million social media users, a 16% increase year-on-year.
Of the adults using social media (47% of the adult population), there is a gender imbalance, with 60% being male and 40% female.
