A couple was arrested after their daughter, aged five, died following a move to discipline her in their house in Kebirigo, Nyamira County.

The incident happened on the morning of September 30, 2025. The couple claimed the girl suffered from epilepsy and collapsed during the incident.

But police said the body of the girl had visible injuries on the head and face, raising questions about the parents’ explanation.

Other tenants at the residential apartment said they heard the girl scream as she was being beaten before she suddenly went silent.

It was then that the couple rushed her to the local hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

The body was preserved at the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures to establish the cause of death. Police have since opened investigations into the circumstances of the incident.

Elsewhere, a family in Kilifi wants justice after their 15-year-old daughter died from head injuries allegedly inflicted by a teacher at Gongoni Primary School in Vipingo.

A post-mortem has revealed that the Grade 8 pupil succumbed to internal bleeding.

Her father, Alex Tunje, says the late Anestine developed a severe headache before she was taken to Kilifi Referral Hospital, where she later died.

An autopsy revealed that the late Anestine had been struck several times on the head with a blunt object, resulting in blood clots in the brain.

Kilifi North Deputy County Commissioner Samuel Mutisya said investigations are ongoing and that the authorities will take necessary action once findings are complete.

The case has triggered outrage in the local community, with parents demanding accountability from the school administration.

Corporal punishment is outlawed in Kenya, yet reports of its continued use occasionally emerge.

Elsewhere in Matisi, Webuye, Bungoma County, one Alfred Soita Wekesa, 60, was found dead in his house after a suspected murder.

The body was found on September 30, 2025, with multiple injuries and lying on his bed.

The man had been missing since September 26 before he was found dead in his house by relatives who had been searching for him.

The motive of the murder is yet to be known, and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigations.

And police are investigating a murder incident after the body of a man was found along Tezo-Kilifi Road in Kilifi Town.

When police arrived at the scene, they said they found blood oozing from the body, with an unopened soda and Sh50 lying next to it.

He was identified as Amani Gohu, a boda boda rider in the area.

The motive of the murder is yet to be known, police said, as they moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations.

Police said they are investigating the case, but they have not established the motive.

Murder cases have been on the rise in the affected regions, with authorities acknowledging the worrying trend even as families of victims call for speedy investigations and justice.
