In Summary

In 2024, the total amount lost to cyber fraud in Kenya skyrocketed to Sh1.5 billion, a massive increase from the Sh412 million lost in 2023.

This jump was primarily driven by a surge in mobile banking fraud, which alone accounted for a staggering Sh810.68 million in losses, a significant increase from Sh182.41 million the previous year.

Card fraud also saw a major increase, rising to Sh263.29 million from Sh15.6 million.

Computer fraud losses grew as well, reaching Sh203.39 million in 2024, while online banking fraud saw a smaller but still notable rise to Sh111.83 million.

Identity theft losses more than tripled, reaching Sh199.08 million. These figures highlight the escalating financial impact of cybercrime on Kenyans.
