    Between March 2022 and March 2024, a survey conducted in Kenya involving 2,444 participants revealed troubling patterns of police misconduct across various public and social settings.

    According to the International Justice Mission Kenya’s Baseline Report (July 2025), police crackdowns emerged as the most common context for misconduct, with 31.7% of respondents reporting abuse during such operations.

    Market days followed closely, accounting for 25.0% of reported incidents, highlighting the vulnerability of civilians in routine economic activities.

    Political demonstrations were cited by 23.2% of participants, underscoring the risks faced by citizens exercising their democratic rights.

    Social events, including weddings, funerals, and harambees, were not spared, with 16.6% of respondents experiencing misconduct during these gatherings.
