In Summary

Based on a July 2025 survey, several factors significantly impact retail prices in Kenya.

The two most agreed-upon factors were transport costs and weather conditions, with 86% and 84% of respondents agreeing, respectively.

These figures highlight the critical roles that logistics and climate play in determining the cost of goods.

Other major contributing factors include input prices (56% agree), such as seeds and fertiliser, and supply chain disruptions (57% agree).

Additionally, 70% of respondents agreed that distance to the market and product availability affect prices.

The impact of labour costs, US trade tariffs, and middlemen/brokers was also noted, although with lower levels of agreement compared to the top two factors.
