The Twaweza survey conducted in August 2025 paints a grim picture of public sentiment toward democracy in Kenya over the past three years.
More than half of respondents (52%) said they are completely unsatisfied with how democracy has been working, while a further 13% are fairly unsatisfied.
Only 21% expressed satisfaction, with 11% fairly satisfied and just 10% completely satisfied. Another 13% said they neither knew nor had a clear stance on the matter.
The findings suggest that a majority of Kenyans feel democracy has not delivered on its promises, possibly due to ongoing governance challenges, lack of accountability, and perceived erosion of public freedoms.
The low satisfaction levels also point to growing public disillusionment with political leadership and democratic institutions, raising concerns about trust in the country’s governance systems.
The survey underscores the urgent need for reforms to restore faith in democratic processes.
