    According to a 2024 survey by the EACC, Kenyans have cited several reasons for the high level of unethical conduct and corruption in the public sector.

    The top reason is the high cost of living, which was cited by 17.9% of respondents.

    The belief that corruption is rampant in many public offices followed closely at 15.8%. Other significant factors include poor service delivery (11.8%) and bad governance (11.2%).

    The survey also noted that an increase in reported corruption incidences (11.1%) and bribery demanded for service provision (6.5%) were contributing factors.

    Embezzlement of funds (4.0%), selfish interests by public officers (3.6%), and misappropriation of public funds (3.3%) were also listed as key reasons.
