According to the 2024 EACC report, giving and receiving bribes remain the most prevalent forms of corruption encountered by Kenyans.
A staggering 52.1% reported giving bribes, while 41.9% noted receiving them. This indicates that bribery is entrenched in many interactions between citizens and public officers.
Favouritism (22.5%), abuse of office (14.6%), tribalism/nepotism (11.8%), and embezzlement of public funds (11.7%) also ranked high.
Other forms include misuse and misappropriation of public property, extortion, and conflict of interest. These findings highlight a worrying trend of normalised unethical behaviour across various institutions.
The report underscores the urgent need for public awareness, accountability mechanisms, and enforcement of anti-corruption laws. It also reflects the frustrations many Kenyans face when seeking services or justice.
