The EACC’s 2024 survey revealed the counties where Kenyans paid the lowest average bribes, shedding light on regional disparities in corruption experiences.
Isiolo tops the list with the lowest average bribe at Sh323, followed by Marsabit (Sh700), Turkana (Sh895), Busia (Sh1,091), and Trans Nzoia (Sh1,092).
Other counties in the bottom 10 include Elgeyo-Marakwet, Kericho, Taita Taveta, Bungoma, and West Pokot.
While this is promising news for residents in these counties, it doesn’t necessarily indicate that corruption is absent—it may reflect fewer interactions with services that are prone to bribery or better service delivery in certain areas.
The variation also suggests that local leadership and enforcement play a key role in determining corruption trends.
