    Kenya's overall inflation rate in May 2025 stood at 3.8 per cent, a decrease from 4.1 per cent in April 2025.

    This figure is calculated based on price changes between May 2024 and May 2025.

    Core inflation, which excludes volatile items and signals long-term price trends, was 2.8 per cent.

    Non-core inflation, driven by transient or supply-side factors like weather and oil prices, registered at 6.0 per cent.

    Significant contributors to non-core inflation included Sukuma Wiki (19.5 per cent), Tomatoes (11.5 per cent), Petrol (9.4 per cent), and Diesel (7.9 per cent).

    Core inflation saw increases in Cigarettes (25.5 per cent), Sifted Maize Flour (14.0 per cent), and Cooking Oil (6.2 per cent).

    The core Consumer Price Index basket accounts for 81.1 per cent of the overall Consumer Price Index.
