Kenya is experiencing steady growth in the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), with the number of registered EVs reaching 4,193 by 2024.
This marks a significant rise from just 194 in 2019, according to data from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
The uptake has been particularly notable in recent years, with registrations jumping from 1,059 in 2022 to 3,753 in 2023, and further to 4,193 in 2024.
This trend highlights a growing interest in sustainable transport solutions, driven by increased awareness, supportive policies, and rising fuel costs.
The government and private sector are making strides in expanding EV infrastructure, including charging stations, to support this transition.
Kenya’s progress positions it as a potential leader in clean mobility across the region.
