Activist Boniface Mwangi, 40, was born in Taveta.
Mwangi was recently detained in Tanzania while attending an opposition trial.
He reportedly endured torture and mistreatment by security agents.
Mwangi has since been released and returned to Kenya for medical attention.
The activist has been arrested several times while on his activism job.
