A 2024 Media Council of Kenya report shows that a majority of Kenyans believe the media does not cover the government fairly.
Overall, 73% of respondents expressed distrust in the media’s objectivity, while only 27% said the coverage was fair.
The scepticism cuts across gender and locality, with 72% of men and 75% of women saying “No.”
Among urban residents, 74% shared this sentiment, with 72% in rural areas and 76% in peri-urban areas echoing the same view.
These figures point to a credibility gap that Kenyan media must urgently address.
