World Clean Up Day is celebrated every year on September 20 vide a UN General Assembly (UNGA) proclamation in its Resolution 78/122.

The initiative unites people from all over the world to tackle the waste crisis through collective action.

In a statement on Thursday, the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) said the event will be held at the Michuki Memorial Park, Nairobi.

Declared results for the 2023 exercise as per the 2023 Annual Report indicate that 19.1 million people participated in the clean-up exercise last year worldwide.

The report says a total of 198 countries and territories took part in the exercise, including 90 percent of UN member states.

It adds that 219,000 tonnes of waste collected.
