In a classic case of baptism by fire, Ruto has faced heavy political turbulence, internal feuds and protracted street protests that nearly pushed the country to the brink.

He was sworn in on September 13, 2022, after the Supreme Court dismissed several petitions challenging his victory.

From confronting the high cost of living, ballooning debt amid shrinking revenues, opposition and Gen Z protests, wrangles in UDA and industrial action by civil servants, Ruto has been tested to the limit.

On June 25, protesters stormed Parliament, destroyed multi-million shilling property and attempted to set it a blaze.

The protesters thereafter vowed to "occupy" State House, forcing Ruto to deploy the military to the streets.
