An advert on X (formerly Twitter) claiming the State Department for Housing and Urban Development is recruiting is fake.

The advert has 14 job positions and each position has the number of people required to fill it.

Qualified and interested Kenyans are advised to send their application documents consisting of well detailed CV and cover letter to an email provided not later than October 27, 2023.

“The Government of Kenya is currently facilitating the development of 250,000 Affordable Housing Units per year. This is a transformative agenda that will go beyond the provision of decent homes to deserving Kenyans but also to trigger economic transformation, job and wealth creation. In this regard, AHP is calling upon qualified Kenyans to apply for the following positions. These jobs are available in the 47 counties of Kenya,” part of the advert reads.

Applicants are also advised to avoid multiple applications as that will lead to automatic disqualification.

“Apply only once. Indicate the position you are applying for and the reference number in the email subject line. Shortlisted applicants shall be contacted via email on a rolling basis,” the advert adds.

The fact checker checked the social media handles of the ministry in charge of affordable housing in Kenya and discovered that the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, housing and Urban Development had stamped the advert as fake.

“Beware of this FAKE and MISLEADING advertisement!” the ministry captioned the post.

In a rejoinder to the user who asked about the authenticity of the advert, the State Department for Housing and Urban Development on their X account flagged the advert as fake.

“The alleged job advert below is FAKE. It has nothing to do with the Affordable Housing Program (AHP) which is spearheaded by the State Department for Housing and Urban Development. The public is warned not to fall prey to such fraudulent schemes,” the State Department for Housing and Urban Development wrote.

State Department for Housing and Urban Development Principle Secretary Charles Hinga also posted the flagged fake advert on his X page.

The State Department has a website that one can visit to see the available job vacancies in the opportunities sector.

The last job opportunities were posted in 2021 for Artisan III (Plumbing, Painting, Carpentry, Masonry, Welding).

They also give directions on where to collect the application form on the Public Service Commission website and send an application to Housing Urban website.

The Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) is an initiative by the government, as one of the pillars of the Big Four Agenda, to ensure that low and middle–income households have access to decent and affordable housing units.
